This film asks Native American students to consider the question “What is a Scientist?” We showcase their responses to spark viewers’ interest in how Native American men and women deferentially negotiate cultural expectations and social support structures to persist in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) disciplines in college. The film highlights data from our NSF funded grant project on “Supportive Communities” which follows Native American men and women in STEM majors at Montana State University and Northern Arizona University using a mixed-methods approach.
