When someone worries that they will be judged on stereotypes, this is called “stereotype threat.” This film details a research study on women’s experiences of their college science laboratory classrooms that can trigger stereotype threat and how it impacts motivation. We hear from researchers Eric Deemer and Jessi L. Smith about this grant project and listen to the stories of three women: one from biology, one from chemistry, and one from physics, who’s different experiences as undergraduates illustrate the challenges and opportunities associated with being a woman in science.
